In recent decades, plastic water bottles have become a large pollution problem throughout the world and have made an enormous negative impact on our environment. It is estimated that only 1 in 5 plastic water bottles is actually recycled, leaving the other four to eventually make their way into landfills or oceans. The demand for plastic drinking bottles is projected to increase at an alarming rate in the coming years, so we decided to get involved and try to make a difference.
As a footwear companyTamarindo, it was only natural that we set out to develop and design shoes. In addition to stylish design and feeling great, these shoes needed to also feature eco-friendly materials. The eco-friendly material that we found, is ECO TWX. The ECO TWX material used in our footwear line, incorporates recycled water bottles that have been processed into strands that are then mixed with natural fibers to create a pleasant, durable canvas material. It takes about thirteen plastic water bottles to make every pair of ECO-TWX labeled shoes in the Tamarindo line, and that's a step in the right direction. To further our commitment to making a difference, Tamarindo will have one tree planted for every ECO-TWX product sold, through OneTreePlanted.org
The first two Tamarindo styles to debut with the ECO TWX label, are the Jetty and the Canopy which are available in both Men's and Women's sizes.
